Need Volunteer Hours? Join TEEN LOL

The Teen LOL is an organization made up of local teens who are interested in participating in activities that benefit Sterling Municipal Library and the community. They meet once a month to discuss ideas for teen programming, Teen Central and the Teen Central Website, the Teen Scene newsletter and special LOL activities. Members may also write book reviews and articles for the Teen Scene newsletter and the Teen Central Website. Teens age 12 - 18 who are in Jr. High, High School, or a home school program may join. Everyone who joins will receive 1 hour of volunteer service for every meeting they attend. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month from 6-7 p.m. unless otherwise posted. To join, just fill out an application and return it to the Teen Services desk. Applications are available at the Library and online.

Once again, the Library will be publishing a Teen Poetry Anthology in honor of National Poetry Month. During the month of April, teens may submit up to two original poems for publication in the anthology. All participants will receive two copies of the anthology, which will be available in June 2006.

Last year's anthology was very successful! Nine teens submitted poems, and some even read their poems at a Poetry Night/Coffee House held at the Library.

To participate, please pick up a form at the Library or print one off the Library's Teen Website and submit your poems to Kim Archer. For more information, call Kim at 281-427-7331, ext. 255.
